Where Are INFINITI Vehicles Made?
Luxury vehicles are probably the most challenging to manufacture. The people who buy them will likely have high standards and expect flawless execution and extreme attention to detail. Few automotive brands can match these expectations, with INFINITI being one of them. If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about this Japanese luxury carmaker and where it manufactures its vehicles, this is your chance to find out.
Discovering the Origins of INFINITI Vehicles
INFINITI is a Japanese brand that started as a Nissan Motor Company project. Its purpose was to create a performance luxury brand that differentiates itself from its parent company but uses the same manufacturing and design principles that made Nissan a world-renowned automotive company. It got its name in 1987, and the first INFINITI models, the elegant Q45 sedan and the high-performance M30 coupe, were launched in the U.S. two years later, in 1989. Since then, INFINITI has grown into one of the most famous and appreciated automotive luxury brands in the world.
Key INFINITI Models and Their Production Locations
The INFINITI models currently available are the Q50, QX50, QX55, QX60, and QX80. Despite being a Japanese brand, not all these models are built in Japan. Keep reading to learn more about each model and where it’s made.
INFINITI Q50
Many people associate luxury vehicles with sedans, and it’s easy to understand why. They’re spacious enough to provide excellent comfort levels for everyone inside, but they can also be very quick and easy to handle around corners. That’s also a great way to describe the INFINITI Q50. Even its base engine is powerful, producing up to 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The upgraded version boosts these numbers to 400 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, which is impressive for such an elegant vehicle. Its roomy interior and high-quality materials are also luxury sedan-worthy.
The INFINITI Q50 is built at the carmaker’s Tochigi plant in Japan. It’s Nissan’s largest manufacturing plant in Japan, where many Nissan and INFINITI models are manufactured. Its 5,200 employees work on delivering around 193,000 vehicles each year. Their high-level training and commitment to quality provide the attention to detail they need to manufacture quality vehicles despite the high production numbers. They’re also helped by various robots and other tech innovations that work alongside humans and handle much of the workload.
INFINITI QX50
Small luxury SUVs are some of the most popular vehicles today. Besides being spacious and comfortable, their SUV shape and relatively high ground clearance make them more capable than sedans on rough surfaces. The current INFINITI QX50 is part of its second generation, first introduced in 2019. It gradually improved with each model year, with the 2025 version coming with standard all-wheel drive in all configurations. It provides everything you’d expect from a luxury SUV, including top-quality cabin materials, smooth ride quality, and a capable 268-horsepower engine.
The QX50 was the first INFINITI model manufactured at its Cooperation Manufacturing Plant Aguascalientes, located in Mexico. Its high-end technology and dedicated personnel make it Nissan and INFINITI’s fastest manufacturing plant in the world, with no less than 65 vehicles being completed each hour. This speed doesn’t come with compromises on quality and doesn’t affect the environment, as the plant achieved 100% waste recycling back in 2009 as part of Nissan’s Green Program.
INFINITI QX55
The QX55 is similar to the QX50, but its coupe-style design gives it a slightly sportier look and less cargo space. It also has a bit more ground clearance than the QX50, making it more suitable for rough roads and light off-roading. Since they’re both similar and the major difference is in their design, choosing one over another is down to personal preference. They’re also both built at the same factory in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Its central location in Mexico gives the plant a strategic position, allowing it to efficiently service the entire North American region.
INFINITI QX60
This midsize three-row SUV is ideal for those who want the best in comfort and luxury but need more than the traditional five seats. It creates an exceptional experience for the driver and their passengers due to the comfortable seats, quality materials, and exceptionally quiet cabin. Its suspension system also contributes to the overall upscale feeling, as it can go over most road bumps with minimal fuss for those inside. Its wide door openings make it easy to get in and out, and it comes with all the infotainment features you’d expect from a modern luxury SUV.
The QX60 is the only INFINITI model produced in the U.S. Nissan started manufacturing vehicles in the U.S. in 1983, with hundreds of thousands of vehicles being completed each year. The QX60 has been built in the U.S. since 2022, starting with its second generation.
INFINITI QX80
The QX80 is INFINITI’s largest vehicle and perfectly mixes luxury with utility. Its supreme interior space and comfort make it fit the luxury SUV class, and its powerful 450-horsepower V-6 engine provides the power to handle it with ease. It’s also highly capable for such an upscale vehicle, as it can tow up to 8,500 pounds.
The QX80 is manufactured at Nissan’s Shatai Kyushu plant on the island of Kyushu. Over 3,000 members of the local community work on delivering INFINITI QX80 SUVs and have been doing so since 2010.
